7th Serving: ServCollab’s Serving Humanity Logic

This 7th ServCollab Serving explains ServCollab’s Serving Humanity Logic, the holistic logic we are building to transform human service systems. It is also a normative logic for serving humanity.
To construct our Serving Humanity Logic, we search for universal concepts for serving humanity. Most human systems are designed for local groups, making it challenging to identify human universals.
Foundational Concepts
Service, collaboration, and wisdom are the foundational concepts of ServCollab’s Serving Humanity Logic. These concepts were described in more detail in my first three ServCollab Servings.
Service emerges from the universal human behavior of making offerings to other humans. Such offerings might be tangible, intangible, or cognitive.
Collaboration emerges from our universal interaction behaviors when tasks require full human agency. It is the highest form of human interaction. Shared trust and shared purpose are necessary for collaboration to emerge from human interactions.
Wisdom is the highest level of human understanding, which emerges from our universal learning behaviors. Ignorance is the natural state of every human at birth. Modern civilization is based on the cumulative knowledge of centuries. Unfortunately, wisdom has not kept pace with the rapid growth of knowledge.
Theory of Change
We designed ServCollab’s Theory of Change as a general model for enabling the regenerative transformation of human service systems. As I described in my 4th ServCollab Serving, our theory of change also applies to all of humanity.
ServCollab’s Theory of Change states that service enables collaboration, collaboration enables wisdom, and wisdom enables service.
Service Wisdom Principles
We synthesized three Service Wisdom Principles from our Theory of Change.
ServCollab’s service wisdom principles are: 1. Serving Each Other, 2. Serving the Truth, 3. Serving the Future. Each wisdom principle is based on an essential truth about humanity.
The principle of “Serving Each Other” is based on the scientific truth that humans are a social species that depends on each other for survival.
The principle of “Serving the Truth” is based on the scientific truth that we are an ignorant species that must rely on each other to learn to survive and prosper.
The principle of “Serving the Future” is based on the finite life of all species. For humans, this means more than biological reproduction. We invented languages and cultures to pass on knowledge and wisdom to the next generations.
We believe that humanity can become a wise species if we serve each other, serve the truth, and serve the future!
Service Language
To help create a common service language for the service research community, ServCollab created two new words: Consapience and Servicist.
Consapience
After focusing on growing wisdom as an essential human need, we began working to cultivate it.
We decided that humanity needs a concept for the unity of wisdom, but we couldn’t find one. We were inspired by E.O. Wilson’s popularizing of the concept of consilience, which describes the unity of knowledge.
So, we constructed a new concept for the unification of wisdom, which we named consapience. The word is derived from combining con- (Latin: together) and sapientia (Latin: wisdom).
We define consapience as follows:
“Consapience is the synthesis of diverse forms of human wisdom, including philosophical, ethical, cultural, indigenous, experiential, artistic, scientific, practical, and professional, to serve humanity.”
Servicist
Seeking to serve more than 8 billion living humans through research collaborations requires growing the service research community.
We decided that service researchers need a professional title to describe themselves and to help grow the service research community.
Disciplines such as physics, economics, biology, and sociology have corresponding professional titles: physicist, economist, biologist, and sociologist.
We coined a new word to identify those dedicated to serving humanity.
We define a servicist as follows:
“A servicist is anyone who seeks to understand and practice serving humanity by elevating human experience and service systems.”
Physicists seek to understand matter and energy.
Servicists seek to understand what matters to people.

We will continue to evolve and expand this logic, but our Serving Humanity Logic is already sufficient to guide Transformative Service Research collaborations that serve humanity.
